(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Lying on the bottom of the points table, Al Shamal displayed a gallant show to hold leaders Al Sadd 2-2 yesterday in what was the day of drawn games at the Qatar Stars League as El Jaish and Al Kharaitiyat also shared a point each following a 1-1 draw.
The game at the Al Shamal Stadium could easily be dubbed as the match of the day where the home side that has been struggling for a win this season gave Hussain Amute's side a scare with a fine show.
Al Sadd looked set for an easy rout against Al Shamal when they took an early lead through Abdelkerem whose perfect header found target in a 12th-minute corner. But that did not happen as hosts bounced back with an aggressive strategy to hold the strong opposition.
Cho Yonghyung took full advantage of glitches in Al Sadd's defense and earned the equaliser for Al Shamal just after six minutes of Al Sadd's goal.
Al Shamal then stunned the leaders by earning a lead in the 32nd minute with an accurate shot by Said Boutahar.
They maintained the lead to walk into the breather with one goal advantage.
Desperate for the leveler, Al Sadd struggled for a goal until Hasan Khalid Haydos got one in the 62nd minute.
However, Al Shamal conceded no further goals to ensure a 2-2 draw against favourites and snatch a point € arguably their best performance in the season so far.
Meanwhile, Al Kharaitiyat also gave fifth-placed El Jaish a run for money after taking the lead.
Abdul Aziz Ansari broke through a fabulous shot in 31st minute and El Jaish had to wait till 79th minute when a solo effort by Romario Ricardo Silva earned them the leveler. The next QSL round will be played on December 13 with four matches to be played on the day.
