(MENAFNEditorial) Silatech and international nonprofit organization IREX recently concluded a four-day training program, graduating a new group of 13 Tamheed advisors at a ceremony in Ramallah. During the course, representatives from six youth development resource centers (YDRCs) in the West Bank received training as career advisors, qualifying them to conduct individual career counseling sessions aimed at helping youth choose a career. Master Tamheed trainer Bahieh Yaish of Silatech conducted the training course.
Developed jointly by Mindmill, a UK-based assessment company, and Silatech, a Qatar-based social initiative focused on improving employment and entrepreneurship opportunities for young people throughout the Arab world, Tamheed is a psychometric assessment that analyzes the personality, interests and strengths of young people, and then helps align these with available career paths. Tamheed career guidance services are currently available from trained advisors in nine Arab countries: Qatar, Egypt, Palestine, Jordan, Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria, Syria, and Saudi Arabia.
The Tamheed training comes as part of IREX's Partnerships with Youth (PWY) program. Funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), the PWY program aims to develop a network of vibrant YDRCs throughout the West Bank where young Palestinians can innovate, learn, and develop their talents, gain access to educational and leadership opportunities, and explore career possibilities. Tamheed career guidance will be a core offering of the YDRCs.
In addition to Tamheed career guidance training, Silatech will provide IREX with technical assistance to improve the delivery of employability soft skills training for youth, as well as support for building strong outreach initiatives to encourage internship programs among Palestinian companies and organizations.
According to Silatech Palestine Country Representative Rula Shunnar, "Through Silatech's partnership with IREX, youth development resource centers will offer Palestinian youth access to a tested and proven career guidance tool, as well as trained advisors, enabling them to choose a career path matching their individual preferences, skills and abilities."
"We are very pleased to kick off this shared initiative that builds on USAID's deep commitment to youth development and on-going support to Palestinian youth entering the workforce," said Rachel Surkin, Deputy Director for Education at IREX. "We anticipate that Silatech's long-term commitment to strengthening employability for Palestinian youth will be institutionalized in the YDRCs and serve thousands of youth in the coming months and years."
Silatech and the Tamheed program have a strong presence in the West Bank, including a career guidance partnership with the International Youth Foundation (IYF). Through local partnerships with IREX and IYF, there are now 60 trained Tamheed advisors in the West Bank and East Jerusalem offering one-on-one career guidance to Palestinian youth at YDRCs, community centers, universities, schools, and NGOs.
