Hyderabad literary festival to focus on linguistic imperialism

Hyderabad: The growing threat of “linguistic imperialism” status of linguistic human rights and India’s endangered languages would be some of the focus areas of Hyderabad Literary Festival (HLF) 2015 to be held here from January 23 to 26.

The 100-year-old iconic Hyderabad Public School (HPS) campus will host the festival which will have about 70 literary and cultural events lined up over three days with an expected participation of more than 100 authors and artistes.

A special session on India’s endangered languages and linguistic human rights will also be held. “More than seven per cent of the world’s languages are endangered and this is high when compared with endangered animal species. We will have a plenary session exclusively on endangered languages” said Ajay Gandhi one of the directors of the festival.

“The Hyderabad Lit Fest has become an important part of the city and this time there is more significance to the approach and outlook of the fest.

“Since HPS is a heritage building and a city landmark the festival fits in the venue very well” he said.

HLF 2015 is being organised by the ‘Hyderabad Literary Trust’ in collaboration with the Department of Tourism Government of Telangana and with the support of several academic literary cultural organisations and publishing houses.
