Bahraini security forces arrest suspects in Damistan blast

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Bahrain's Interior Ministry announced Tuesday that security forces have arrested a number of suspects in connection with the Damistan village explosion, which took place yesterday and killed a security guard, official media reported Tuesday.

Other suspects have also been identified by security bureaus and are being tracked down to bring them to justice, Major General Tariq Al-Hassan, Public Security Chief, said in a statement, according to Bahrain News Agency (BNA).

Maj-Gen. Al-Hassan noted that investigations are currently underway to arrest the main perpetrators of this attack, extending his condolences to families of the victims and affirming his government's commitment in standing united in the fight against terrorism and extremism.

He explained that the incident took place when rioters attacked a police camp in Damistan village with stones and Molotov cocktails, adding that a security guard used tear gas canisters to disperse the crowds and force them away from the camp.

The on-duty guard Ali Zarikat, a Jordanian national, lost his life after the rioters managed to drag him and his colleagues, who were guarding the camp, and detonate a home-made explosive device using a mobile phone, he added.

"It has been found out that the same method was used in making the two bombs," Al- Hassan said, adding that "this method was used by some terror groups like the so called 14 February Coalition and Al-Ashtar, Al-Mokhtar and Al-Karar Brigades."
