Jordan, Egypt discuss energy cooperation


(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency)  Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Energy and Mineral Resources Regulatory Commission, Farouq Hiyari, Tuesday discussed with acting minister of Egypt's ministry of electricity, Hasan Hasanain and the accompanying delegation, ways to boost energy co-operation between the two countries.

Hiyari voiced the Commission's readiness to cooperate with the Egyptian side in areas related to regulating the energy sector as well as the peaceful uses of nuclear energy.

He briefed the Egyptian delegation on duties of the Commission as well as its role in giving licenses to institutions working in the energy field.

The chairman also spoke about the role of the Commission in regulating the electricity and minerals sectors through granting of licenses and monitoring the performance of companies operating in this sector.

Hiyari noted the Kingdom's rising electricity bill, pointing to losses of the National Electric Power Company that might reach JD1.35 billion by the end of the year.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed the best technical practices achieved by the two countries in the energy field.
