Syrian refugees conference kicks off in Amman

(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency)  HRH Princess Rym Al Ali on Monday opened an international conference titled "Syrian Refugees in Jordan: The Question of Community and Media," in which more than 200 academics, journalists and political figures as well as government officials are participating.

The Dean of Jordan Media Institute (JMI), Basim Tweissi, said that this conference is being held at a time when the Syrian crisis has exacerbated not just inside Syria but is also impacting the neighboring countries hosting refugees from the troubled nation.

Tweissi pointed out that the conflict in Syria does not seem heading towards a clear prospect of a resolution to the crisis in the near future or a return of the refugees to their homeland, thus only further exacerbating this problem.

The gathering seeks to build a database about the conditions of the Syrian refugees in Jordan in particular, and neighboring countries in general, in addition to creating opportunities for networking between the media and various organizations involved with the affairs of the Syrian refugees.

The conference, co-organised by the Norwegian Media Institute, seeks to develop a better and more subjective understanding about the conditions of host countries.
