Lower House speaker receives Turkish counterpart

(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) "The Lower House Speaker, Atef Tarawneh, said on Monday that terrorism fueled by extremists in the name of the Islamic religion, threatens us all.

Tarawneh said during the official parliamentary talks session with his Turkish counterpart Cemil Cicek, 'We in Jordan are still working with the Arab and international community to highlight our different issues, including the challenge that threatens all of the region if values related to security and stability are not inculcated across all generations.

In the light of what is being seen in the neighboring countries, 'we in Jordan still adhere to the policy of finding a political solution to crises to stop the bloodshed and preserve unity of the country,' Tarawneh added.

On the Palestinian issue, Tarawneh said the more the solution is delayed, the more it would allow the extremist ideology to strike root, stressing the importance of establishing the Palestinian state with full sovereignty over its territories as the key to solve the region's issues.

Cicek said the region is facing difficult conditions, therefore more progress in the relations between Jordan and Turkey will contribute towards promoting stability in the region.

Jordan and Turkey enjoy a solid relationship, Cicek added, indicating His Majesty King Abdullah II's visit to Turkey and the Turkish Prime Minister's visit to Jordan that had a positive impact in developing joint ties.

Turkey he added, has been suffering from terrorism for more than 30 years, adding the terrorism claimed the lives of 30,000 Turks and that his country did not receive international support to fight terrorism expect from a number of countries.

Cicek said the region is exposed to a humanitarian crisis because of terrorism. The countries most affected by terrorism are Jordan, Turkey and Lebanon since they are facing an influx of hundreds of thousands of refugees, an issue that has caused economic crises in these countries, he said.
