Lower House speaker receives Turkish counterpart..................1st LD


(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency)  He said Turkey respects the King's custodianship of the Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem and was ready to offer all forms of support to Jordan to protect the Islamic sites.

The Turkish official also condemned the Israeli practices in Jerusalem, including the closure of the Islamic sites for Muslim worshippers.

"Cooperation between Turkey and Jordan is necessary at this stage in order to fight terrorism and extremism and unify efforts to achieve security and stability in the region," Cicek added.

He pointed out the obstacles facing economic cooperation between the two countries and voiced the hope that this issue will be resolved by the ministers of industry and trade of the two countries.

Following the official talks, the House Speaker's first deputy, Ahmad Safadi, and the Turkish parliament speaker held a press conference in which they reviewed topics they had discussed.

Safadi said the talks dealt with joint efforts to fight terrorism and extremism, the need to solve the Palestinian issue as well as ways to forge closer ties between Jordan and Turkey in various fields.

Cicek, on his part, said Turkey supports Jordan's policies under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah to achieve security and stability in the region.

Turkey he added, backs efforts of King Abdullah to preserve the Islamic holy shrines in Palestine in general, and in Jerusalem in particular.

The Turkish parliament's speaker also voiced support to the King's efforts to enable the Palestinians to establish their independent state on their national soil.
