US, Chinese officials discuss areas of cooperation


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Senior US officials on Monday met with the Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Liu Zhenmin here to discuss bilateral relations, primarily "US-China engagement in the Asia-Pacific, including the importance of strengthening regional institutions," the Department of State affirmed in a statement.

For 30 minutes, Zhenmin met with Acting Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman, who "stressed the importance of constructively managing differences as a means of strengthening the overall bilateral relationship," the statement said.

The two officials also talked about cooperation between their countries "to combat climate change and the Ebola outbreak as examples of how the two sides can work together to advance global security." Zhenmin also met with Assistant Secretary for the Bureau of East Asian and Pacific Affairs, Daniel Russel.
