Tunisian FM Hails GCC Summit in Doha, Qatar's Positions Towards Tunisia


(MENAFN- QNA) Minister of Foreign Affairs of Tunisia Dr. Mongi Hamidi stressed the importance of the GCC summit which is being held in Qatar on December 9-10, saying it is a leap in the GCC relationships.

The Tunisian Minister expressed his country's pleasure for the breakthrough in the GCC relations and described Tunisia's relations with Qatar as almost strategic, praising Qatar's position and assistance in supporting the Tunisian people.

The minister also congratulated the State of Qatar on the occasion of the National Day and said that Qatar has made amazing development leaps.

In a statement to Qatar News Agency about his recent visit to Qatar during the last few days, the Tunisian Minister said that it came within the framework of consultation and coordination with sisterly countries such as Qatar, where a number of issues of common concern were discussed with HE the Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al-Thani and HE the Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Khalid bin Mohammed Al Attiyah.

He also emphasised Tunisia's firm position towards the Libyan crisis, saying that the solution to the crisis can only be achieved politically by encouraging all Libyans parties to hold dialogue and achieve national reconciliation leading to peaceful settlement to the Libyan crisis. He stressed that the Qatari and Tunisian views are identical in this regard and the Qatari officials believe in the importance of the peaceful solution.

Regarding the bilateral relations between the two countries, he said that the Qatari-Tunisian relations are at the highest level in all areas, and almost strategic, adding Qatar was the forerunner to help Tunisia since the beginning of the Tunisian evolution and provided aid to Tunisia at all economic, financial and security levels.
