Toyota recalls 190,000 units over Takarta air bag defect

(MENAFN) Toyota Motor Corp. announced recalling 190,000 units in Japan and China over a potential defective air bags manufactured by Takarta Corp, Oman Observer reported.

Japan's regulator said the automaker may change its recall system to better respond to an unprecedented crisis and it was considering revising parts of the existing recall system.

"Changing the law would be a lot more involved, but there are things we can change outside the law," head of the transport ministry's recall division said in a statement.

The recall comes after an explosion of a Takata-made air bag inflator in a 2003-model Toyota subcompact at a scrapyard in Japan in November, though the cause of the potential problem is still unknown.
