(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Government troops carried out a special raid in Shabwa in eastern Yemen releasing the long-held US hostage, Luke Somers, the Yemeni Ministry of Defense reported on Saturday.
Up to 10 members of Al-Qaeda organization, which was holding the US citizen, were killed in the operation.
Meanwhile, the local media reported that US pilotless drones took part in the operation.
Somers appeared in a video film, last Thursday, appealing for help and affirming that his kidnappers might kill him. Al-Qaeda had kidnapped the American in the Yemeni capital a year ago.
