EU pledges funds to fight Ebola in West Africa


(MENAFN- Saudi Press Agency)  The European Union on Saturday pledged 62 million euros (76 million dollars) to fight Ebola in the three countries hardest hit by the disease: Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone.
According to dpa, the funds were announced during a visit to Conakry by EU International Cooperation Commissioner Neven Mimica, who signed an agreement pledging 244 million euros to general development cooperation with Guinea from 2014 to 2020.
'This programme will allow us to engage with the Guinean government in a new area, that of urban sanitation,' Mimica said.
The EU and its member states have so far pledged more than 1 billion euros to the fight against Ebola.
