Qatar- QC allocates QR400,000 for Morocco flood victims

(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Qatar Charity (QC) has allocated QR400,000 as emergency aid to the flood-hit south-eastern regions of Morocco, in the first phase of a relief package.

A QC delegation visited Morocco to assess the humanitarian situation in the affected areas.

The delegation experienced difficulties in reaching the areas due to difficult weather conditions, and damaged roads. QC said it was the first non-Moroccan humanitarian organization to intervene.

Recent torrential rains reached over 250mm in a few hours, leading to unprecedented floods since the 1960s. Many primary and secondary roads were damaged, more than 32 people killed, several injured and over 150 homes destroyed. A large number of cattle heads also died and farms destroyed.

The delegation took around 50 hours to reach the affected areas in the south and inspected the conditions of the injured and evaluated requirements of all those affected. Field visits indicate huge loss of homes and infrastructure, agricultural land and livestock, and an urgent need for blankets, mattresses, heating, food and shelter for those whose homes were destroyed or damaged.
