Qatar bourse gains 1.08pc but weekly loss stands at 4.37pc


(MENAFN- The Peninsula)   Qatar bourse gained 1.08 percent yesterday to close the week at 12,748. Industrials and Telecoms sectors were the top gainers.

Qatar Exchange (QE) weekly data, however, showed the market was down by 4.37 percent during the past week.

Trading value decreased by 45.79 percent to QR3bn. Total trading volume declined by 16.35 percent compared to the previous week. The number of total transactions also fell by 6.13 percent to 35,480 percent.

The market cap fell by 4.23 percent to QR696bn, as 35 of the 43 listed companies fell during the week.

The banks and financial services sector led trading value, accounting for 43.97 percent of the total traded value, followed by Industrials sector, real estate and consumer goods and services sector.

The total traded volume was led by the real estate sector, accounting for 34.68 percent of the total traded volume, while the banks and financial services led trading number, accounting for 31.45 percent f the total number of transactions.

According to Reuters, most Gulf markets gained yesterday as some investors started buying back beaten-down stocks after oil prices seemed to have established a floor around $70 per barrel during the week.

Brent crude has rebounded a few times after dipping below that mark and was relatively steady after data showed US crude stocks fell more than expected last week as refineries hiked output.

Saudi Arabia's index rose 1.8 percent. Major supports included blue chips Saudi Basic Industries, which jumped 3.6 percent, and Al Rajhi Bank, up 1.7 percent.

In Dubai, most shares also rose, but the index fell 0.4 percent because of heavyweight Emaar Properties, which tumbled 7.4 percent, extending its decline since passing the record date for a special dividend on Novemner 30.

Outside the Gulf, Egypt's index added 1.7 percent as property stocks led gains.
