Garner protesters march in NYC

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA))  One day after the Jury's decision to acquit a New York Police office over death of the US citizen of African origin, Eric Garner, protesters marched the streets of the "Big Apple".

New York Mayor Bill de Blasio said in a letter that Garner's death was a terrible tragedy that no family should have to endure.

"For many across our city and our nation, yesterday's grand jury ruling compounds feelings of grief with dissatisfaction and anger," he sadly expressed.

"As we reflect on the weeks leading up to yesterday's decision and prepare our path forward, I want to share a snapshot of our short- and long-term plans to improve the relationship between police and the communities they serve," he added.

Furthermore, Mayor de Blasio said that the NYPD and the Justice Department will initiate their own investigations, and affirmed that they city owns a proud and powerful tradition of expression through non-violent protest.

Demonstrations and free speech, he noted, are valuable contributions to debate, but violence and disorder are not only wrong - they are counterproductive.

News of some individuals were arrested by the police while marching the streets of NYC.

Many protesters headed yesterday after the announcement by the Jury, to the Grand Central Terminal for a "die-in".

Protests were held in different areas in the city, from Times Square, to Foley Square, as well as the Rockefeller Center (where the place was packed with visitors for the Tree Lighting Ceremony)
