04 December 2014: Eco-friendly motoring is no longer science fiction but science fact thanks to the growing number of electric-powered vehicles on the market.
The Renault Zoe is one such option and now the manufacturer has announced changes to the way it will be priced in the UK in addition to implementing updates to the design of the car's interior.
Initially the Zoe was sold new for as little as £13995 thanks to a government subsidy and the chance to lease the batteries used to power it rather than buy them outright. But for drivers who want to avoid ongoing payments the new version of the car will soon be available for an upfront cost of just under £18500.
Of course the ability to lease the batteries will remain once the pricing has been updated with Renault deciding to cut the costs of doing so by £20 monthly in order to win over more drivers who are still on the fence about buying an electric car.
Hybrid and full electric vehicles certainly make sense in urban areas like Stevenage where roads can be congested and petrol engines are nowhere near as efficient. But at the moment pricing incentives are required to boost sales and the shape of the second hand market for this type of car has yet to be fully determined.
