Oman exports fall 8.5% during first 7 months of 2014


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) The total value of exports from Oman including oil and gas non-oil products and reexports recorded a decline of 8.5 per cent by the end of July 2014 to RO11.7bn compared with RO12.8bn recorded during the same period in 2013. 

Recently released trade and export statistics issued by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI) revealed that the fall is due to a decrease in the value of oil and gas exports by 7.7 per cent declining from RO8.5bn exported by the end of July 2013 to RO7.8bn recorded during the same period in 2014.

During the same period the total value of re-exports also fell by 18.8 per cent to RO1.8bn by the end of July 2014 compared with RO2.2bn during the same period in 2014. Non-oil exports also declined by 1.1 per cent to RO2.07bn by the end of July 2014 compared with RO2.09bn during the same period in 2013.

According to the NCSI report the total value of merchandise imports through sea land and air outlets declined by 12.8 per cent by the end of July 2014 to RO6.5bn when compared with RO7.5bn during the same period in 2013.

The total volume of merchandise imports by weight also registered a drop of 29 per cent by the end of July 2014 totaling 11.6mn tonnes versus 16.4mn tonnes by the end of July 2013.

The total value of merchandise imports through sea outlets declined by the end of July 2014 by 21.9 per cent to RO4.1bn compared with RO5.3bn during the same period 2013. Meanwhile by volume imports by sea declined by 32.4 per cent to 6.74mn tonnes by the end of July 2014 compared with 9.98mn tonnes during the same period in 2013.

On the other hand the value of merchandise imports arriving via land outlets grew by 24.2 per cent to RO1.9bn by the end of July 2014 compared with RO1.5bn during the same period in 2013 however the volume by weight declined by 23.5 per cent dropping from 6.42mn tonnes by the end of July 2013 to 4.91mn tonnes during the same period in 2014. During the same period the total value of merchandise imports arriving via air outlets declined by 25.6 per cent to RO499mn compared with RO670.9mn by the end of July 2013.

Additionally the volume of air imports by weight recorded of drop of 50.7 per cent with 27600 tonnes recorded by the end of July 2014 compared with 56000 tonnes during the same period in 2013.
