Saudi- EP militant to die for attacks on policemen
(MENAFN- Arab News) A special criminal court in Riyadh sentenced a terrorist to death on Tuesday for opening fire at security patrols in Awamiyah in the Eastern Province.
The court affirmed the criminal charges against the suspect who opened five rounds of gunfire at a traffic patrol at the Al-Rif Square in Awamiyah. The gunshots also wounded officials regulating the traffic the court observed.
The man fled the scene on a motorbike and later fired three rounds at a police patrol at Mughirah Street in Awamiyah and wounded one of the patrol officers. Next he shot twice at another patrol officer who ordered him to surrender. He was also charged for shooting at yet another police patrol which chased him while he was driving a car and was joined by two accomplices who shot the passenger in his car who they said was a police informant.
The man was accused of carrying an unlicensed gun ammunition and possessing a Kalashnikov with the aim of disrupting the peace in the country. He was also charged with carrying the banned Captagon tablets and some wireless devices.
The court has provided the accused with a copy of the verdict so that he can appeal his sentence within a period of one month.
