Cities have to provide room for healthier living, says Coe

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times)  Cities bidding for the Olympic Games and other major sporting events must comply with the obligations to benefit people, especially the next generation, said Lord Sebastian Coe, Vice Chairman of the International Athletics Federation and Chairman of the British Olympic Association, in Dubai on Sunday.

Speaking at a press conference to promote The Etisalat Dubai Kids Run in March next year, Lord Coe, the former Olympic gold medallist in middle-distance running and head of the 2012 London Olympics, said: "The London Olympics was always focused in this aspect right from the bidding days in 2005. The government and private sector have to work closely to set the foundation for the present and the future generations to follow healthy outdoor lifestyles and take up sport even if it is a challenge to individuals."

Lord Coe added: "The aim of the kids' fun run here in Dubai next year is to educate the region's upcoming generation on the importance of healthy eating, proper exercise and the proactive pursuit of wellness."

A child-friendly running course will be constructed at the amphitheatre at Dubai's Media City, particularly for the event, to ensure a safe and secure environment for all.

During the two-day (March 20-21, 2015) event, children will be taught the values of a healthy lifestyle whilst being entertained in an exciting yet educational manner.
