Now chilli bombs to tackle rioters in Gujarat

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times)  The police in Gujarat which often witnesses rioting incidents and mass demonstrations may soon have a new weapon to take on the trouble-makers-chilli bombs.

The hand-grenades stuffed with the world's hottest chillies from Assam were tested at a weapon demonstration function held in Ahmedabad at the police headquarters ground recently.

A senior police officer who tried the new anti-riot device said the chilli bombs were expected to replace teargas as the tool of choice for dispersing mobs and tackling law and order situations.

According to him, during the recent mob attack on policemen in Ahmedabad, the miscreants hurled back the teargas shells at the uniformed men but chilli bombs are made of plastic and, once fired, they melt, thus giving no chance to crowds to throw them back.

Once shot, the indigenously-made chilli bomb explodes and a thick, pungent smoke is generated. Along with a burning sensation in the eyes, it makes people cough vigorously. It leaves an impact for about 30 minutes and, during this time, the police can control the mob without firing a single shot.
