Brazilian beauty queen hospitalised after cosmetic surgery


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times)  Brazilian beauty queen and television host Andressa Urach, 27, has been hospitalised in serious condition after a cosmetic treatment to increase the size of her thighs, medical sources reported.

Urach on Tuesday underwent a surgical procedure and remains sedated in the intensive care unit at Conceicao Hospital in Porto Alegre, the capital of Rio Grande do Sul state, according to the latest medical bulletin.

A spokesman for the model said that doctors performed a "cleaning" procedure at the site on her leg where Nov 21 she underwent an operation to remove a product called hydrogel, which she had had injected five years ago to increase the size of her upper legs.

The spokesman said in a statement that Urach "is responding well to treatment".

Last Saturday, a week after the operation, Urach was hospitalised again for an infection in her left thigh resulting from the hydrogel injection.

Sunday and Monday, doctors drained the rest of the product from her leg, but her condition worsened and she was moved to the intensive care unit.

As reported by the daily Folha de Sao Paulo, Urach had 400 millilitres of hydrogel injected into her legs, a quantity that is twice the recommended amount.

Currently, she is a host on the Muito Show programme on Rede TV.
