Dh2,000 fine for couple who assaulted each other

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times)  Both the husband and wife accused each other of assault and using abusive words following an argument over a family dispute.

The Ras Al Khaimah Misdemeanour Court has ordered an Arab couple to pay a fine of Dh2,000 after they were found guilty of assaulting each other and swearing.

As per court records, the wife told the police that her husband assaulted her and used abusive words. Her husband, however, approached the police accusing her of beating him up following an argument over a family dispute last month.

The couple's relatives tried to settle the litigation in an amicable way, but to no avail.

The case was first referred to the Family Counseling Section of the RAK Courts, but the couple insisted on proceeding with the case. The case was then referred to the First Circuit of the RAK Misdemeanour Court, presided by Chief Judge Fathi Al Qallaa.

Paternity case settled

The RAK Personal Status Court, presided by Dr Maher Naeem Suroor, has confirmed the paternity of an Arab girl based on the statements of the defendant and DNA lab test reports.

Court records show that 11 years ago, the defendant denied fathering the 10-year-old girl. He had married her mother in 2003 without documenting their marriage or attesting it at the court concerned.

The mother approached the RAK Police in 2013 with a paternity suit. She told the court that she tried to convince the defendant to admit to fathering the girl, but he refused.
