Ban appoints Lise Grande as UNAMI Special Representative


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon appointed Lise Grande of the US as his Deputy Special Representative of the UN Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) succeeding Jacqueline Badcock of Britain.

The newly appointed Grande will also serve as the UN Resident Coordinator and Humanitarian Coordinator for Iraq, a statement by Ban noted.

Ban said that Grande brings to this position extensive experience in countries experiencing conflict and transition, having served in some of the UN largest humanitarian operations and in peacekeeping missions.

Currently, Grande serves as the UN Development Programme (UNDP) Resident Representative and UN Resident Coordinator in India since August 2012.
