December work program for UNSC

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The concurrence of terrorism, extremism and criminality throughout the continent is of great concern, Permanent Representative of Chad told the press on Tuesday.

Mahamat Zene Cherif of Chad, whose delegation is to preside the Security Council for the month of December, said that terrorism and cross-border crime in Africa would be a major focus at the UNSC.

"Most terrorist groups are engaged in all kinds of trafficking, drug trafficking, weapons trafficking, trafficking of persons and other kinds of activities," he said.

The Council scheduled to hold open debates tackling Kosovo, the situation after the elections there and the role of the United Nations Interim Administration known as (UNMIK), as well as briefing to address activities of the United Nations Regional Office for Central Africa (UNOCA), including implementation of the regional strategy to combat the Lord's Resistance Army.

Activities of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), renewals of the United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNMIL) and the Liberia sanctions, the Organization's monitoring group in the Golan Heights known as (UNDOF), and the terms of judges and prosecutors of the International Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia and the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda, will also take part in the current month's sessions.

He said that they will be holding the regular monthly briefing on the humanitarian situation in Syria to be given by Under-Secretary-General Valerie Amos, and the briefing on the Middle East by the Special Coordinator Robert Serry.

Syria's Joint Representative Stephan di Mistura was expected to give a briefing on Syria as well.
