U.S. Stocks Head Higher in Early Trading


(MENAFN- Saudi Press Agency)  U.S. stock indexes moved higher in early trading Tuesday, as the market bounces back from a loss the day before.
U.S. automakers, including Ford, General Motors (GM), and Fiat Chrysler, posted better-than-expected November sales. BP climbed on unconfirmed talk of a takeover bid for the U.K. energy company from Royal Dutch Shell. RadioShack fell as the electronics retailer rejected claims that it had breached covenants on a term loan from Harbinger Group unit Salus Capital Partners. Apple fell, extending losses after its largest single-day decline since September.
The Dow Jones industrial average rose 59, or 0.3 percent, to 17,836. The broader Standard & Poor's 500 index gained 8, or 0.4 percent, to 2,063.61. The technology-heavy Nasdaq composite index climbed 21, or 0.5 percent, to 4,748.
The dollar gained ground against the currencies of major U.S. trading partners. Light sweet crude oil for January delivery fell $1.61 to $67.43 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Gold futures dropped $18.50 to $1,199.60 an ounce.
