Now Available Tourism Flows Inbound in India

(MENAFNEditorial)

In 2013 inbound tourism recorded growth of 7% in terms of the number of trips. Although growth was stronger in 2013 in comparison to the 4% rise in 2012 this growth was still lower than the Ministry of Tourism’s expectations. The primary issue that resulted in lower than expected growth was the Delhi gang rape case that occurred in December 2012 which resulted in a large number of foreign tourists avoiding India due to safety issues. The episode had a major impact on inbound tourism especially for female travellers whether single or in families/groups.

Industry Prospects

There is expected to be a change in the most common source countries over the forecast period with Pakistan Egypt and Japan recording the strongest growth at respective CAGRs of 15% 14% and 12% in terms of the number of trips. This is expected as the US and the UK were already mature source countries for inbound tourists to India while newer countries such as these where the weather and culinary tastes are slightly similar are expected to become increasingly stronger sources of tourists.
