UAE Paralympic team to participate in Cairo event


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times)  The UAE Paralympic delegation heads for Cairo to take part in the regional games for the Middle East and North Africa via the Dubai International Airport on Tuesday.

The UAE will be represented with 58 athletes from both sexes and they will feature in 12 disciplines including athletics, bowling, table tennis, cycling, weightlifting, equine, swimming, football and other sports.

Mohammed Fadhel Al Hameli, chairman of the UAE Paralympic Association, urged the players to show a bright image of their country in this regional demonstration in the light of the great push which the handicapped sport has been receiving and to maintain the gains that have been achieved in the recent international appearances.

The head of the UAE delegation to the Games, Majid Al Esaimi said: "We are confident that the UAE players will live up to the challenge and do the country proud to crown the efforts that have been made to upgrade the handicapped sport at all levels."

Meanwhile, Marium Saif Al Qubaisi, head of the intiatives and families committee, noted that they are keen to bring the parents with them in order to provide more support for the players and make them feel at home. "The UAE handicapped athletes are competent enough to make their presence felt," she said.
