IAEA chief flies to Kuwait, discuss bilateral cooperation


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Yukiya Amano left for Kuwait Monday for talks with senior officials on cooperation between the UN nuclear watchdog and Kuwait.

The three-day visit of Amano, at the invitation of First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, is very important because it will coincide with the 50th anniversary of Kuwait's IAEA's membership.

Kuwait's Ambassador to Austria and permanent representative to the international organizations Sadeq Marafi, in a statement to KUNA, said Amano would be meeting with His Highness the Deputy Amir and Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled, and Minister of Oil and Minister of State for parliamentary affairs Ali Al-Omair.

Amano, said Marafi, would also meet with Director General of Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED) Abdulwahab Al-Bader, and visit Jaber Al-Ahmad Nuclear Medicine Center which was established by Kuwait Foundation for Advancement of Science (KFAS) and IAEA.

The IAEA chief will also visit Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR) and KFAS to discuss with their executives cooperation on alternative energy, noted Marafi.
