Qatar- Ooredoo launches 4G+ for higher speed

(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Ooreedo yesterday launched 4G+ network to enable its customers to use mobile services at nearly double the speed of existing 4G network.

The current available 4G speed is up to 150 Mbps. With 4G+, customers will be able to reach up to 225 Mbps, almost double the average 4G speed in areas of Doha.

"We need to be one step ahead of our customers and of the country's needs, which is why we were the first to launch fibre, first for 4G and now first to launch 4G+. This service puts us on the map as one of the most connected countries in the world and will provide the fastest and best LTE service in Qatar for our people," said Waleed Al Sayed, Chief Operating Officer, Ooredoo, at the launch.

The launch was attended by Ooredoo's CEO, Sheikh Saud bin Nasser Al Thani, Ooredoo's Brand Ambassador, Nasser Al Attiyah, and other senior staff.

Customers will be able to enjoy access to Ooredoo 4G+ at no added cost with a device that supports Ooredoo's 4G+ technology and supports 800 or 2600 MHz frequencies.

Ooredoo has launched three smart devices to work with 4G+ frequencies. The devices, including Samsung Alpha, Huawei Ascend Mate 7 and Huawei E5786 Mi-fi, are available via Ooredoo Shops. Customers can find a list of Ooredoo-supported 4G+ devices at http://www.ooredoo.qa/en/4G-devices. 4G+ service is available in select areas and will be extended to other areas with expansion of required infrastructure. Customers can use 4G+ on the Corniche, West Bay Lagoon, Katara, Souq Waqif, Al Rayyan, Shahaniya and Sealine. 4G customers in a 4G+ area without a 4G+ enabled device will continue to enjoy standard 4G speeds.
