Video Spotlights Heroic Act

The New York-based Enterprise Association of Steamfitters Local Union 638 has launched its new video spotlighting the heroic actions of union apprentice Juan Lopez who rescued four undercover NYPD officers from a fiery vehicle collision.

On March 25 2014 the 5th year apprentice and his siblings sprang into action after four NYPD officers were trapped by a major car crash that incinerated two vehicles including the unmarked police cruiser carrying officers. “I don’t consider myself a hero. I just did the right thing” remarked Lopez.

“They knew the situation was critical and that they had to remove the officers trapped in that car or otherwise they would have died. The car did explode” said Richard Roberts Steamfitters Local 638 Business Agent At Large. “Juan Lopez deserves to be honored. He’s a stellar apprentice and he’s a hero. He’s the future of our industry.”

In the video “Steamfitters 638 Apprentice Honored for Rescuing Four NYPD Officers” (http://tinyurl.com/opwcjou) Lopez is feted by the Building and Construction Trades Council of Greater New York and New York City Public Advocate Letitia James for his brave act.

Steamfitters Local 638 also recently released a YouTube Channel video “Penn South AFL CIO Housing Trust” (http://tinyurl.com/nkzp484) spotlighting the rich history of New York City’s Penn South houses and its critical role in providing quality affordable housing for working families.

Steamfitters Local 638 members and companies of the Mechanical Contractors Association of New York design construct and service the piping and mechanical infrastructure in New York’s high density buildings.
