Saudi- Illegal expats 'working as university professors'


(MENAFN- Arab News) Shaqra University has allegedly hired several expatriates as academics who are not under their sponsorship according to a report in an online publication.

The report stated that the expatriates are working as academics at the university teaching medical and English courses despite having 'not authorized to work' written on their residence permits.

The report quoted sources saying that they have photographs showing the iqama of a woman expatriate with this notification and of the person's schedule showing she would conduct over 20 lectures.

Similar cases were identified at the medical arts and science faculties the report stated.

According to the online publication this is a violation of the country's labor laws and deprives citizens of jobs. The report also raised questions about the qualifications of the foreigners.

The report stated quoting earlier reports that the university has finalized the sponsorship transfers of 50 expatriates from a local training company. It also indicated that some citizens were angry because they were not considered for the positions of professors assistant professors and lecturers.

Meanwhile under the directives of the Mayor of Riyadh Abdullah Al-Muqbil raids were carried out to tackle unsafe and illegal practices at shops in the Malaz and Batha areas of the capital.

During the campaigns inspectors identified over 260 violations and closed 11 shops. They seized more than 25000 cartons of fruit and vegetables which were handed to charities.

The inspectors also found that 26 locations used to store fruit and vegetables lacked minimum health requirements.

The municipality has been working on cleaning up areas of the city.

The Ministry of Interior arrested 624 illegal workers in two separate raids this week.
