Shreya Ghoshal treats fans to hits at Dubai concert

On a beautiful Friday evening Shreya Ghoshal proved that it’s not just her gifted singing skills and golden voice that have helped her cement a place in the pantheon of great Indian singers. Unlike the many prima donnas of Bollywood Shreya brought a breath of fresh air to her concert at a packed Sheikh Saeed Hall 1 Dubai World Trade Centre by arriving on time before delivering a splendid performance that captivated her adoring fans who never missed a chance to sing along with their favourite voice.

For someone who has more followers on Facebook than the three Khans - Shah Rukh Aamir and Salman - and Amitabh Bachchan – only the mighty Sachin Tendulkar can boast bigger numbers - the singer has remained remarkably grounded.

Each ovation was greeted with a warm smile and words that were refreshing modest. “Well I first entered the scene as a 10-year-old in a TV reality contest. The love and encouragement of my family were my biggest inspirations. And then it was you – the fans – who have remained my constant inspiration. I have always tried to bring something new to you because without you and your love I would have never reached this stage” said the four-time National Award-winning musician.

She then belted out her biggest hits including Manwa Lage (Happy New Year) Aashiyan (Barfi!) Kehte Hai Khuda Ne (Agent Vinod) Barso Re Megha (Guru) Yeh Ishq Haye (Jab We Met) Zoobi Doobi (3 Idiots) Ooh La La (The Dirty Picture) Teri Meri (Bodyguard) and of course Bairi Piya (Devdas) – her first Bollywood song which also fetched her the first National Award of her glittering career.

The second half of the concert was dedicated to the golden era of Bollywood music.

“Legends like Lata ji (Lata Mangeskar) Asha ji (Asha Bhosle) Kishore da (Kishore Kumar) Mukesh Ji and Rafi saab (Mohammed Rafi) have been the pillars of my musical life” Shreya said before paying tribute to the iconic singers by singing some of their most unforgettable numbers – Chaudhvin Ka Chand Ho (Rafi) Woh Shaam Kuch Ajeeb Thi (Kishore) Kabhi Kabhie Mere Dil Mein (Mukesh) Piya Tu Ab To Aaja (Asha) Dum Maro Dum (Asha) Aap Ki Najron Ne Samjha (Lata) and Lag Ja Gale (Lata).

The presence of graceful Indian actress Shabana Azmi and dashing former Pakistan cricket captain Ramiz Raja added some more star power to a memorable musical evening.
