Kuwait- Sheikh Salman participates in tournament opening ceremony


(MENAFN- Arab Times) RIYADH Nov 13 (KUNA): The Coach of Kuwait National Football Team Jorvan Vieira Thursday said that the squad aims at snatching the title of the 22nd Arabian Gulf Cup tournament. In a press conference held at the media center Brazilian coach affirmed that the team is in good shape for opener against Iraq in the Group B saying the team is ready to perform well. 'Iraqi team is strong but efforts on the pitch decide the result' he added.

The final line-up of Kuwaiti team has not yet been announced as it has some injuries. Meanwhile Minister of Information and Minister of State for Youth Affairs Sheikh Salman Sabah Al-Salem Al-Humoud Al- Sabah Thursday arrived in Riyadh to participate in the opening ceremony of the 22nd Arabian Gulf Cup tournament. The delegation headed by Sheikh Salman includes Director General of the Public Authority for Youth and Sports Sheikh Ahmad Al-Mansour Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah and other senior officials of the authority. The Minister and the delegation were received by Prince Abdullah bin Musaad boin Abdulaziz Al Saud general president of Saudi youth welfare and Kuwaiti diplomatic mission to Saudi Arabia led by Ambassador Sheikh Thamer Jaberl Al- Ahmmad.

Ambassador Thamer held a dinner banquet in honor of Sheikh Salman Sabah the delegation soccer national team players and some other senior officials. In a press statement Sheikh Ahmad Al-Mansour affirmed his trust Saudi officials tasked with organizing the event would contribute to making a 'successful tournament' that reflects a shining image of Saudi and Gulf sport. He said that such Gulf tournament is highly appreciated by the Gulf people as it has competitive atmospheres in the framework of close relations between the Gulf Cooperation Council's (GCC) countries. Sheikh Ahmad expressed his thanks to Prince Abdullah bin Mussaad for the warm reception and generous hospitality that the Kuwaiti delegation and participating squads found.

Sheikh Salman also hailed the Gulf Nations Cup's role in improving football performances on the regional continental and global scales. He spoke of his joy over the sports congregation in its 22nd edition while speaking to reporters just before departing to Riyadh to attend the event which starts the following day. He also paid homage to the competition as being dear to the people of the Gulf. Kuwait TV will be broadcasting the football event while also providing in-depth daily analysis of its matches he affirmed. Kuwait is the most nation to have won the coveted regional title on no less than 10 occasions followed by Saudi Arabia and Iraq with three apiece.
