(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) His Majesty King Abdullah II met with a delegation from the British House of Commons at Al Husseiniya Palace on Sunday that comprised members of The Council for Arab-British Understanding, CAABU, and the All Party-Parliamentary Jordan group led by MP Crispin Blunt.
The meeting focused on ways to boost cooperation and friendship between the two countries in various fields, as well as the latest developments in the Middle East.
Talks also covered efforts to achieve peace in the region, as well as regional and international efforts to confront terrorist organizations and extremist ideologies that threaten all.
His Majesty reiterated Jordan's supportive stance of efforts that aim to achieve a just and comprehensive peace in the region, leading to the establishment of an independent and viable Palestinian state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, in line with the two-state solution, international legitimacy resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative.
The King said that Jordan was continuing its efforts to protect the Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, support the steadfastness of its people and preserve their rights based on the Hashemite custodianship of the holy sites in the city.
On Syria, His Majesty reiterated the need to arrive at a comprehensive political solution that preserves the country's security and territorial integrity. He also reviewed efforts exerted by Jordan to deal with the repercussions of the crisis in Syria, in particular the hosting of Syrian refugees.
Members of the delegation praised efforts of Jordan, under the leadership of His Majesty, to bring about security in the region and address challenges facing it.
The meeting was attended by the Royal Court chief, the director of the King's Office and the British ambassador in Amman.
The Council for Arab-British Understanding (CAABU) is a London-based advocacy group that works with government, parliament and media to further the United Kingdom's positive engagement with the Arab world. Founded in 1967, CAABU is the oldest and largest cross-party organisation of its kind, with over 100 parliamentary members.
