PM receives British House of Commons' delegation

(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency)  Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour, on Sunday, met with a delegation from the British House of Commons, that comprised members of the Council for Arab-British Understanding (CAABU), and the All Party-Parliamentary Jordan group led by MP Crispin Blunt.

The meeting tackled ways to boost cooperation and friendship between the two countries in various fields.

Talks also covered the latest developments in the Middle East, especially the Palestinian cause as well as the impact of the Syrian crisis on Jordan.

The prime minister stressed that all problems and challenges facing the Middle East were due to the lack of a just solution to the Palestinian issue, pointing out that the absence of a solution is because of Israel's lack of commitment to the international legitimacy resolutions.

Ensour also stressed Jordan's support for all the efforts that would achieve a just and comprehensive peace in the region, leading to the establishment of an independent and viable Palestinian state, with East Jerusalem as its capital, according to the two-state solution, international legitimacy resolutions and the Arab peace initiative.

As for the Syrian crisis, the prime minister reiterated Jordan's proposal to find a political solution to stop the bloodshed in this brotherly country, pointing out the repercussions of the Syrian crisis on Jordan, as it hosts a large numbers of refugees who have put pressure on Jordan's resources and hosting communities in key sectors such as health, education and employment. The pressure is more acute because of limited international support to the Kingdom to meet these burdens.

The premier reviewed the comprehensive reforms carried out by Jordan under the directives of His Majesty King Abdullah II, in spite of the difficult regional conditions.

The British delegation praised Jordan's efforts, under the leadership of His Majesty the King, to promote security and stability in the region and in dealing with the challenges it faces.

The delegation said it was aware and appreciates the magnitude of the challenges facing Jordan, especially having received a large number of Syrian, Palestinian and other refugees.

The meeting was attended by the Minister of Interior, Hussein al-Majali, Minister of State for Media Affairs and Communications and acting Foreign Minister, Mohammad Al-Momani, Minister of Political and Parliamentary Affairs Khaled Al Kalaldeh and the British Ambassador in Amman, Peter Millett.
