Qatar 2022 organising body joins diabetes drive

(MENAFN- The Peninsula) The Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy, the body tasked with organising the 2022 FIFA World Cup, recently joined a campaign by Action on Diabetes to screen employees where they work. Over five days, more than 600 employees were tested for diabetes in the Action on Diabetes screening bus stationed outside Al Bidda Tower in Doha, where the SC is based.

Launched earlier this year, the workplace screening campaign benefits both individuals and companies looking to ensure the well-being of their staff, with all of those screened receiving a personalised analysis of results as well as recommendations on how to reduce the risk of developing diabetes in the future.

The Action on Diabetes bespoke screening bus was positioned outside Al Bidda Tower in West Bay, with staff from Hamad Medical Corporation and Qatar Diabetes Association on board to check visitors for diabetes with a variety of screening tests. Following assessments that included blood pressure testing, body mass index testing and cholesterol testing, patients were given a personal health file which they completed during the screening.

The results were then analysed through one-on-one consultations, where diabetes educators gave advice to patients on lifestyle changes that will help to lower the risk of developing Type 2 diabetes. The screening was also open to other businesses occupying Al Bidda, including Qatar Football Association and Qatar Stars League.

In the past two weeks the screening bus, funded by Maersk Oil Qatar, has travelled from a successful World Diabetes Day event at Katara, where 650 people were tested for the condition, to Qatari Diar in Lusail where 400 employees were tested. The bespoke vehicle is the only one of its kind in Qatar and is fitted with a range of testing equipment to allow analysis of random blood glucose, HBA1C, cholesterol, BMI and blood pressure.

Mohammed Al Marzouqi, Administration Executive Director of the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy, said: "Over the last week, the Action on Diabetes bus has screened more than 600 of our employees, which is a great achievement. At the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy, ensuring the best quality of health of our employees is of great importance to us."
