WB provides USD1.2b to improve infrastructure in EAC

(MENAFN) The World Bank announced providing a total of USD1.2 billion in order to help improve infrastructure and competitiveness of East African Community (EAC), QNA reported.

The Bank's Country Director for Burundi, Tanzania and Uganda said the bank was partnering with the EAC governments, other development partners and the private sector to invest in regional infrastructure.

He said through International Finance Corporation (IFC), the WB will provide more resources for regional infrastructure through market-driven private sector financing and guarantees.

"We will also invest in specific transport links to better connect landlocked countries to the Northern and Central corridors, this way improving these countries' access to the ports of Mombasa and Dar es Salaam," he said.
