China's ports throughput decreases

(MENAFN) Throughput at China's ports stayed decreased at a low level from January to October, local media reported, QNA reported.

Shipping handled at the country's major ports increased 4.6 percent annually in the first ten months to nearly 9.3billion tons, compared with a 9.9% growth in the same period last year.

Port throughput is an important indicator of a country's foreign trade. China's foreign trade volume decreased to 2.5 percent growth from January to October from 7.6 percent in the same period last year.

China's foreign trade is improving following a hard time in the beginning of 2014. MOT spokesman expected that port throughput to expand annually for the whole 2014, albeit at a slower pace.
