Arab Peace Initiative Committee convenes in Cairo


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The Arab Peace Initiative Committee (APIC) here on Saturday convened at the headquarters of the Arab League under chairmanship of Kuwait's First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah.

The meeting was attended by Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas and Arab League Secretary General Nabil Al-Araby.

"The committee's meeting will discuss the developments of the Palestinian issue and ongoing Israeli malpractices and violations in the occupied Palestinian city of Jerusalem," Arab League Deputy Secretary General Ahmed bin Helli told reporters before the meeting.

The committee, he added, will also tackle the European stance toward recognizing a Palestinian state and Arab steps should be taken to help Palestine get a Security Council resolution regarding setting a time to end Israeli occupation and implement the aims of the Arab peace initiative.

Bin Helli noted that the gathering of the committee will present some recommendations to the meeting of Arab foreign ministers which is set to convene here later in the day to take a proper decision.

The committee chaired by Kuwait includes Palestine, Jordan, Lebanon, Egypt, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Algeria, Tunisia, Morocco, Sudan, Yemen, UAE and Oman.

Foreign ministers of the committee's member states are participating in the gathering.
