Iraq Football Association sack nat'l team coach Hakeem Shaker

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The Iraqi Football Association has parted ways with its national team Iraqi head coach Hakeem Shaker, and has formed a special committee tasked with finding a replacement.

"The IFA has decided unanimously during a meeting held here this (Saturday) evening to dismiss head coach Hakeem Shaker and his backroom staff, with financial matters dealt with according to the law," said IFA member Yahya Karam.

Meanwhile, the statement added that the IFA would be searching for a "foreign coach" to replace the Iraqi manager through a special committee tasked with the matter, but without mentioning any additional details.

The sacking comes after the national team's poor showing at the recently-held Gulf Cup in Riyadh, whereby the three-time winners were dumped out of the competition in the group stage, having amassed only one point.
