Maharashtra ISIS recruit in NIA custody till December 8

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) A SPECIAL court here on Saturday remanded Arif Majeed suspected to have joined the ISIS in Iraq while on a pilgrimage to the custody of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) till December 8.

Majeed flew into Mumbai in the early hours of Friday from Turkey and was immediately detained by sleuths of the NIA. He was interrogated through the day and was arrested late on Friday night.

The 23-year-old youth from Kalyan an extended suburb of Mumbai is being charged under various sections of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act and the Indian Penal Code.

The NIA sought his custodial interrogation to probe his role in the terror outfit.

In May Majeed and three other friends flew to Baghdad as part of a group of pilgrims visiting religious shrines in the country.

However the four engineering students separated from the group and headed to Fallujah to join the ISIS the terrorist organisation that has been banned worldwide.

Majeed called up his parents in Kalyan and admitted that he and his friends wanted to fight alongside the ISIS militants.

In August one of his friends informed his parents that Majeed had been killed in a US air strike.

However Majeed’s father Ejaz got a call from his son last week informing him that he had escaped to Turkey and wanted to return home. -nithinkhaleejtimes.com
