(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Qafco, in association with Mesaieed Industrial City, conducted a safe driving campaign to increase awareness about the use of the seat belt.
Khalifa A Al Sowaidi, CEO, Qafco, said, "Road crashes have an enormous health and economic impact on victims and their families. Crashes also have a significant impact on local communities and society through the cost of road infrastructure, lost output, traffic delays and demand on police and medical resources.
"It is important that organisations like ours help the administration spread awareness."
Mohammad Al Eshaq, SEQ Manager, Qafco, said, "The law requires front seat occupants to wear a seat belt. However, as per a recent National Road Safety Strategy report, front seat occupants (drivers and passengers) are estimated to have a seatbelt wearing rate of around 50 percent. This has to be addressed on an immediate basis. Through the campaign, we will try to spread awareness of benefits of seatbelt and child restraints."
Qafco planned activities in cooperation with Mesaieed Industrial City. The campaign is extended to industrial cities (Mesaieed and Ras Laffan), hospitals, and universities.
"The attempt is to hold education and awareness campaigns for high risk road user groups and address behavioural issues. It is important that campaigns appeal to road users and messages are translated into behavioural change," Al Eshaq added.
Qafco utilises various platforms to showcase industry safety information and demonstrate to visitors the application of safety techniques. Road accidents are considered a major challenge and Qafco tries to mitigate it by providing its employees of the significance of defensive driving when they commute to work or during personal travel. Qafco employee's families are also given demonstrations on home and kitchen safety and the use of first-aid and fire extinguishers.
