Saudi- One year for forging Ph.D. certificate
(MENAFN- Arab News) A special court in Jeddah has sentenced a university professor to one year in prison and slapped him with a fine of SR1000 for forging the stamp of the Saudi Embassy and signatures of officials on his Ph.D. degree certificate.
The Bureau of Investigation and Public Prosecution ruled that the professor a Jordanian national had forged the stamp and signatures on his Ph.D. degree before presenting it to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs branch in Jeddah for accreditation.
The man was working in a college in Jeddah for 28 years on the basis of a Master's degree. When he obtained his Ph.D. from an American university in Los Angeles and presented it to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for approval it was discovered that the stamps and signatures of the Saudi Embassy on the degree had been forged.
The accused has denied these accusations and offered to send the degree back to Los Angeles to have it accredited again. He said that the degree had been sent to him and that he had given it to the Foreign Ministry's branch for accreditation before presenting it to the university deanship. However authorities maintain that the stamps and signatures of the Saudi Embassy have been forged.
