Gendarmerie director, ICRC official discuss cooperation


(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency)  The Director General of the Gendarmerie Department, Major General Ahmad Al Sweilmiyeen, met on Wednesday with Head of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Jordan, Catherine Gendre, and the accompanying delegation to discuss cooperation between the two sides in the field of human rights.

The Gendarmerie director voiced the department's keenness to protect and enhance human rights and public freedoms in Jordan.

He said cooperation will continue with the ICRC through the Kingdom's participation in peace keeping operations under the UN umbrella in addition to lectures held for Gendarmerie members to take part in the UN peace keeping missions.

Gendre praised the level the Jordanian gendarmerie has reached, as well as their participation in peace keeping missions around the world.
