Kuwait- KISR, GCC General Secretariat sign deal to establish EMC

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR) and the General Secretariat of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) here on Wednesday inked a deal to carry out a study on establishing an environmental monitoring center (EMC).

The center is set to monitor dangerous environmental and radioactive pollutants and everything related to environment and its variables in the GCC to take a proper decision.

In a press statement, KISR's Director General Dr. Naji Al-Mutairi said that the center would work as an early warning system for detecting and monitoring the pollutants.

He emphasized that the EMC is a system which strengthens cooperation regionally and nationally toward achieving sustainable environment and contributing to building human capabilities in environmental monitoring in the GCC countries.

Al-Mutairi noted that the KISR will implement a study on setting up the EMC which takes seven months, indicating that the deal proves Kuwait's key role and cooperation with the General Secretariat and creates a wider range of joint action.

The first phase of the center includes setting up a regional and environmental data base which is primarily designed for the EMC's pragmas, predicting pollution and monitoring potential environmental damage.
