(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) Official emphasises the importance of leaving safe distance between vehicles avoiding overtaking of vehicles and maintaining an appropriate speed.
The Traffic and Patrols Directorate of the Abu Dhabi Police has urged motorists to be cautious while driving in changing weather conditions that may cause low visibility in some areas of the emirate. It also asked drivers to pay more attention while driving in the rain and to refrain from braking suddenly – as this may cause the vehicle to skid on wet surfaces.
Lt-Colonel Jamal Salem Al Ameri Chief of Public Relations Section recommended that motorists should follow weather forecasts.
He also emphasised the importance of leaving safe distance between vehicles (and not tailgating) avoiding overtaking of vehicles and maintaining an appropriate speed in rough weather conditions. Besides motorists should use hazard lights only to indicate that they have come to a full stop or if there is a risk on the road.
He also urged drivers to put their vehicle headlights on low beam in foggy conditions. “Over the past 10 months there have been 14 fog-related traffic accidents in Abu Dhabi. In these there were two fatalities and two serious injuries.
“Motorists should ensure the quality and efficiency of their brakes and wipers and avoid speeding and braking as this would wear out their brakes and reduce their efficiency. Should the vehicle begin to skid due to wet surfaces they should brake gradually until the vehicle comes to a complete halt.”
In the event of a heavy storm he warned drivers against parking under trees phone and electricity towers or billboards and construction sites. — newskhaleejtimes.com
