Qatar- Military Sailing: Germany retain lead, Russian women bounce back


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Germany dominated on day two of the 47th Military Sailing Championship to brighten their chances of winning the men's title while the Russian women bounced back to take the top spot here yesterday.

The German pair of Baldewein Dustin and Wagner Jan-Jasper, which led at the end of the first day with a net score of three, has five at the end of the six races.

Overnight second placed Ukraine team comprising of Pavlo Matsuyer and Borys Shvets continued in the same place, with five points separating them from the leaders.

The final three races will take place today in the nine-race competition.

The Indian pair of Posmarajan Pandian Mottu and Norender Singh Rajput held on to their third place.

Following the top three were Poland's Marcin Czajkowski and Piotr Przybylski in fourth place with a net score of 16 points while the hosts team, comprising of by Jassim Al Sulaiti and Waleed Al Shashani, are in fifth spot with 19.

The six-day championship is contested by 100 sailors from 17 countries.

Sailors from Canada, Sri Lanka, Germany, Pakistan, Denmark, France, Norway, Poland, Ukraine, Finland, Tunisia, India, Turkey, the USA, Indonesia and Qatar are competing in the men's section.

In the women's section, the Russian team of Alisa Kiriliuk and Liudmila Dmitrieva, who were languishing in the third place, leapfrogged to share the first place with overnight leaders France and pushing overnight second placed Ukraine to fourth spot.

France and Russia both have a net score of seven going into the final day.

The Ukraine team of Anna Kyselova and Anastastsiya Krasko, have a score of 18 and third-placed Germany 17.

Poland are in the fifth place followed by USA and Indonesia.
