Construction Delays Not Slowing Down Thanksgiving In Key West

(MENAFNEditorial)

November 11 2014 Key West FL-With over ten percent of Key West Florida’s available hotel rooms scheduled to reopen this fall after remodeling and a brand new 100 room resort originally slated for completion on October 1st both behind schedule members of the tourism commission were beginning to expect the worst when it came to people visiting for Thanksgiving. Thankfully those fears are ungrounded as the remaining hotel rooms are booked to occupancy and most private homes and condos available for rent are also sold out for the extended holiday weekend.

“The fact is that people who want to be here for Thanksgiving will find a way to make it happen” said Norman Vogel owner of the Roof Top Café one of the most popular Key West restaurants when it comes to a tropical Thanksgiving dinner. “Most people who come here on an annual basis for the holiday are smart enough to book their travel arrangements far in advance. And thanks to proliferation of traditional travel websites as well as several alternatives people who are determined can arrange for a place to stay.”

Some of those websites that Mr. Vogel was referring to include upstarts in the social media world like Airbnb along with more established websites like Vacation Rental By Owner or VRBO. These websites allow people to contact private homeowners and condo owners directly to arrange their accommodations. Because they have become so popular the Key West Tourism Commission has begun to survey the private owners on a regular basis in order to help track the number of tourists who come to visit during the year. This information helps the local businesses prepare for when island vacations are more popular and they can be adequately staffed and stocked up to meet all of the needs.

The contractors working on the new resort as well as the remodeling jobs all assure the tourism board that the work will be completed by the end of the year with most shooting for December 1st. One contractor who agreed to speak anonymously said “Delays are inevitable especially considering that all the materials need to be shipped from the mainland but it’s easy to convince our workers to move fast. The sooner they get done working the more time they’ll have to enjoy their own island vacation in Key West.”
