Syrian economy decline 40 percent


(MENAFN) According to the Undersecretary General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, Syria's economy has declined by almost 40 percent since 2011, due to the effects of the political unrest which has swept the country for the last 3 years, KUNA reported.

Syrian economy has been hit hard by the political conflict, resulting in the unemployment level to now exceed 54 percent, as well as three-quarters of the population to live in poverty.

Other aspects of life have also been affected as school attendance dropped by more than 50 percent, while around 12.2 million people are now in desperate need of humanitarian assistance throughout the country, of which 5 million are children.
